Description
A research center devoted to creating more energy efficient products for builders, particularly more energy efficient panels, is seeking a Senior Building Scientist.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the real-world viability of building envelope systems and components
- Support customer service in technical issues related to energy, heat and moisture performance of buildings and building enclosures
- Lead heat, air, and mass transfer related research projects including modeling, material properties characterization, and in-situ system field testing.
- Lead in the design experiments to obtain desired results; analyze and report findings.
- Identify promising opportunities to apply novel materials to building systems
- Analyze the energy performance, cost, and durability impact of applying advanced materials to building envelope systems and components
- Promote multi-disciplinary R&D teams with collaborators to expand the technology portfolio.
- Publish original research in peer reviewed journals and other professional technical publications.
- Actively participate in technical societies such as ASTM and ASHRAE.
- Develop or maintain strong relationships through active participation in building industry organizations and events.
- Encourage and mentor staff members to expand and diversify technology foundations.
Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of the heat, air, and moisture transport properties of materials used in building envelope systems and components
- Proficient at moisture material property evaluation.
- Expert at modeling of heat and moisture transport.
- Familiarity with numerical calculation and statistical data analysis techniques.
- Experience integrating numerical analysis with experimental studies to validate analysis.
- Familiarity with the U.S. building codes and building construction processes.
- Deep understanding of the real-world performance and cost impact of materials commonly used in buildings
- Advanced degree in architectural, civil, mechanical, or materials science engineering
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written to make presentations to customers and peers and for preparing reports, proposals, and publications/journal articles.
- Strong interpersonal skills to support team building, partnering, and leadership.
