EnerNOC unlocks the full value of energy management for our utility and commercial, institutional, and industrial (C&I) customers by reducing real-time demand for electricity, increasing energy efficiency, improving energy supply transparency in competitive markets, and mitigating emissions. We accomplish this by delivering world-class energy management applications including DemandSMARTTM, comprehensive demand response; EfficiencySMARTTM, data-driven energy efficiency; SupplySMARTTM, energy price and risk management; and CarbonSMARTTM, enterprise carbon management.
Our Energy Network Operations Center (EnerNOC) supports these applications across thousands of C&I customer sites throughout the world. Using our C&I customers' energy usage flexibility, we make capacity, energy, ancillary services, and carbon products available to grid operators and our more than 100 utility customers on demand as a cost-effective alternative to traditional power generation, transmission, and distribution.
Position Overview:
The Senior Network Administrator's role is to ensure the stability, integrity and operation of the EnerNOC customer facing computer network, supporting 8000+ sites and the core network infrastructure providing access to the ISPs used to enable the communication network.
Responsibilities:
These responsibilities include leading the activities to:
1. Operational Management:
- Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, support, and optimize all network hardware, software, and communication links
- Provide oversight to Associate Network Administrators for the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.
- Analyze and resolve communication problems between the EnerNOC data centers and the customer sites in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training to EnerNOC support organizations when required.
- Design and manage security solutions, including firewall, and network intrusion detection systems.
- Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, and UPSs.
- Design and implement all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
- Design and maintain network access permissions, and access rights.
- Participate in the planning and execution of security audits.
- Ensure network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Recommend and manage network monitoring tools
- Develop customized network management tools using JAVA and the RAD process.
- Manage and/or provide guidance to Associate Network Administrators.
- Participate in off shift coverage as necessary
- Measuring and tracking the stability, availability, and security of the network
- Performing root cause analysis of our connectivity and data collection problems Identifying and remediating security risks within the network
2. Strategy & Planning:
- Perform network design and capacity planning
- Identify and drive operational efficiencies
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery
- Establish service level agreements with end users
- Collaborate with management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery
- Design and deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, UPSs, and ISP circuits
3. Acquisition & Deployment:
- Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to evaluate network products and services
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
- Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes
- Act as an escalation point for resolving network performance and troubleshooting problems
- Develop design and drive implementation of all network security solutions
4. In support of EnerNOC's core business of demand response,
- Participate in demand response events by:
o Coordinate time critical troubleshooting with site technicians to ensure maximum customer participation during demand response events
o Monitor and manage connectivity for the event
o Monitor and manage remote control activities during the event and at event closure - Provide leadership in delivering network solutions in support of demand response protocols and program rule
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:
- Educational attainment equivalent to BA/BS in computer networking, engineering, computer science or other technical field
- CCNA, CCNP, CCSP or similar certifications and specialized training related to network administration and network security is preferred.
- Excellent networking and computer skills, including experience with cellular communications, routers, firewalls, network address translation, and VPN
- Demonstrated knowledge of advanced networking protocols
- Demonstrated knowledge of advanced network administration principles
- Demonstrated knowledge of mature OSI model practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of security appliances and best practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of customer service principles and techniques
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
- Desire to develop expertise in Demand Response and Energy Management
- Initiative, resourcefulness and the ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible, team environment
- Ability to manage high-stress situations calmly and effectively

- Experience with ITIL, COBIT or other service delivery methodologies
