The Baltimore City Department of Planning is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sustainability Coordinator, which is a City Planner II. Applicants with environmental and sustainability related education and work experience are encouraged to apply. The salary range for the position is $46,700 - $65,500
Responsibilities:
The Sustainability Coordinator performs a variety of functions including but not limited to:
- Serves as staff representative to the Baltimore City Sustainability Commission to develop initiatives and track implementation of the Sustainability Plan
- Recommends guidelines and standards for sustainability plans and programs
- Works closely with other City agencies to implement the provisions of Baltimore City's Sustainability Plan
- Coordinates with public relations staff to develop a communications strategy to market the City's sustainability goals and accomplishments
- Develops programs and activities to educate the public about environmental programs and encourage citizen adoption of sustainable practices and changes in behavior
- Develops and expands the City's "green" agenda
- Evaluates and makes recommendations of the applicability and appropriateness of the City's participation in national, state and regional sustainability initiatives
- Serves as the lead author, and manages production of the annual Sustainability Report
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of research methodology as related to urban planning and sustainability programs
- Knowledge of accepted environmental and sustainability practices
- Knowledge of green building and sustainable development practices
- Skill in writing grant proposals and reports
- Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate a complex citywide sustainability agenda in a clear and focused manner
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master's degree in urban or regional planning, sustainability or environmental studies or a closely related field such as transportation from an accredited college or university and 2 years of experience in performing urban environmental and sustainability planning work OR a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years of experience in performing environmental and sustainability planning work.
- Experience with policy analysis, environmental planning and project management; the ability to make recommendations for guidelines and standards for sustainability plans and programs related to pollution prevention, greening, resource conservation, environmental awareness and the green economy and experience speaking in public and managing public meetings is highly desired.
