Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, a nonprofit organization working to advance sustainability in the urban built environment, has an excellent opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who are interested in getting involved with the growing green building movement. 

Position Overview:

The Event Planning Intern will assist in various aspects of planning our 2nd annual Urban Green Expo, the Northeast region’s premier green building conference and trade expo. Designed to meet the unique needs of the densely developed urban environment at a challenging economic moment, Urban Green Expo brings together building professionals for 2 days of top-level educational sessions, acclaimed speakers and green building tours.  The Expo attracts an elite audience drawn from Urban GreenCouncil’s 1,500 members and 10,000 newsletter subscribers, as well as the extensive network of our Expo partnering organizations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to Communication Department, including processing registration and updating event information.
  • Assist membership and development activities, including some special event support (member meetings, EXPO, etc.)
  • Updating information on our website, blog as well as various social media sites. 
  • Take on special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree obtained or in progress (related field of study preferred)
  • Strong interest in and understanding of event planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, able to handle multiple tasks and to work independently
  • Familiarity with basic office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Proficiency in registration software and Photoshop preferred 
  • Strong organizational skills

Compensation: This part-time unpaid internship will beginon August 16th and last through mid-December 2010. 

Urban Green Council interns will have the opportunity to attend in Urban Green Council educational programs and events, free of charge.
