Position Overview: 

The British Council, the UK's cultural relations organization, seeks a Climate Change Online Communications Manager to join our US team in either New York or Los Angeles on an 18-month contract.

The Climate Change Online Communications Manager will oversee all online components of our international climate change work, devising and managing a comprehensive global digital and social media strategy for our climate change projects in over 100 countries.

Our international climate change projects range from programs that link leading climate change experts with groups of senior journalists and editors to advance the quality of reporting on climate change, to "greening the arts" initiatives that harness the power of the creative community to illustrate complex environmental issues and engage the public at an emotional level.

Responsibilities:

The Climate Change Online Communications Manager will be an integral member of the global Climate Change team, creating, managing, and communicating the global digital climate change strategy by:

  • Ensuring that all online components of the British Council's climate change work meet users' needs and deliver our objectives by commissioning, producing, sharing and distributing high quality digital content.
  • Developing and managing successful digital campaigns for all of our climate change programs
  • Finding realistic, sustainable and efficient options to use technology and digital media to deliver products and services across the climate change program area

Qualifications:

You are a strategic and creative thinker who can adapt quickly to the new challenges and opportunities created by digital technology and media, and can identify and develop potential new products, services and partnerships.

You are someone with a track record of developing content across a wide range of platforms and channels which meets the needs of a wide range of users. You will work with a diverse, multi-skilled and dispersed global climate change team including climate change project managers and marketing and program teams to develop our digital activity in climate change around the world.

Mimumum Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred. Should be in an IT related discipline, however, candidates that have relevant work experience or other technical qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Minimum 2-3 years relevant professional experience.

  • IT/webskills/knowledge of application
  • Knowledge of HTML authoring and image editing software ie: photoshop, paintshop, dreamweaver

Knowledge and understanding of 1 of the following:

  • Search Engine Optimisation
  • E-marketing
  • Online Customer Service
  • Web analytics
  • Online brand management
  • Evaluation of web projects
