GreenWorks Community Development Corporation is a newly incorporated non-profit organization established by residents of Central Brooklyn in 2006. Its mission is to promote sustainable living in low-income communities through education, advocacy and job creation. GreenWorks develops and manages sustainable initiatives in Central Brooklyn and throughout New York City.

Position Overview: 

GreenWorks is seeking a Senior Planner for Housing Development (Consultant) to support the planning, development, start-up and expansion of a new housing management/development project. This initiative will be a joint-venture project aimed at attracting private investments into Central Brooklyn. This is a short-term project with a commitment of 15 hours per week for approximately 2-3 months.

Reporting to the President and Board of Directors of GreenWorks, the Senior Planner will be responsible for coordinating and conducting activities to achieve GreenWorks mission to make affordable housing a part of the system of essential services that support low-income residents, and to promote the development of sustainable housing management systems nationwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project activities: project assessment, design, feasibility study, environmental review process, community participation, land sales, development partnerships, and construction.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and fund development activities
  • Oversee content sharing activities, including proposals and presentation content.
  • Organize special events and meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and develop budgets

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years relevant work/internship experience, master's degree in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of and interest in sustainable development, housing, and economic development
  • Ability to work collaboratively, independently, and manage multiple projects under deadlines
  • Experience in the not-for-profit or government sector helpful
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong computer skills: knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research
  • Willingness to travel
