Project Supervisor

WRD Environmental, an ecological design/build firm that creates and fosters environmentally responsible landscapes, is seeking a Project Supervisor to work with the Greencorps Chicago Program. Greencorps Chicago (GCC) is the City of Chicago Department of Environment's community greening and job training program run in partnership with WRD Environmental.

Greencorps Chicago's mission is to promote environmental stewardship and improve the quality of life by establishing natural spaces that are safe, healthy and sustainable through hands-on involvement with trainees and community partners. GCC aims to improve Chicago's quality of life by creating awareness, building commitment, developing expertise and providing the resources necessary to establish community gardens and green spaces.

Position Overview: 

The Project Supervisor will serve as a project or program supervisor, overseeing Greencorps Chicago program participants, student groups, and community organizations to ensure established goals and objectives are met. Plan work schedules and priorities for project activities, participate in preparing project or program operating budgets and monitor budget expenditures. Provide instruction and job training on landscape and horticultural practices and techniques to program participants in clasroom settings and in the field.

Responsibilities: 

The responsibilities of the Project Supervisor include:

• Creating the weekly schedule; attending weekly staff meetings;
• Managing multiple projects at one time;
• Daily on-site crew management;
• Crew training and evaluation;
• Other tasks as needed.

Qualifications: 

Qualifications for this position include:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Horticulture or a directly related field supplemented by 1 year of progressively responsible experience in landscaping, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required;
• Construction, carpentry, hardscape, tree care, urban agriculture or home weatherization retrofitting experience a benefit;
• Ability and willingness to work with a diverse population, members of the public and community groups;
• Ability to demonstrate organizational and leadership ability;
• Ability to lift and move heavy object and work outside in inclement weather and extreme temperatures;
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, evenings or holidays;
• Basic Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
• Must have a valid Illinois driver's license with clean driving record;
• Willing to work an irregular work week, (generally, 8:30-4:30) and 2 months out of the year Tuesday-Saturday;

Compensation: Salary range of $36,000 to $40,000 pending experience (currently poised as a 2-year position).
