RE Sources for Sustainable Communities is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization based in Bellingham, WA. Our mission is to promote sustainable communities through recycling, education, advocacy and the conservation of natural resources. For more than 25 years, we have enjoyed a strong position in the community. A diverse funding base includes 2-retail used building materials stores, service contract income with area governments, business sponsorship, and individual donation support.

Position Overview:

The Development Director oversees all of RE Sources' fundraising activities. A major focus in the coming 1-3 years will be growing our donor base, including individual members, major donors, and business partners. A phase II Capital Campaign, with a $500,000 goal will also be planned and executed during the coming 2 years.

The Development Director will be responsible for donor relationship building, member appeals, developing and managing a major gifts program, and promoting corporate sponsorship opportunities. The Director will also coordinate foundation research and work with program managers to write grant proposals and manage foundation relationships.

In concert with the Membership and Outreach Coordinator, the Development Director will monitor and evaluate membership initiatives-renewal, special appeal and membership acquisition letters, monthly pledge donations, member surveys, etc. The Development Director is a member of the organizational leadership team; the ability to work well as a fundraising team leader, to interact regularly with program staff and to work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, plan and evaluate all fundraising activities, including development of an organizational fundraising plan
  • Manage and coordinate a major gift/capital campaign (goal: $500,000 in 2 years)
  • Plan and write membership solicitations and communication materials
  • Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporations and foundations
  • Work with the Executive Director, Program Director, and Membership & Outreach Coordinator to plan fundraising and member cultivation events
  • Develop and manage a planned giving program

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a 4-year degree from an accredited university and have at least 3 years direct fundraising experience with a non-profit organization. Ideally, applicants will possess a passion for environmental issues. Strong candidates will be personable, persuasive, able to perform the diverse range of tasks required in a small organization, and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are imperative.

Compensation:

This is a full time position based in Bellingham, WA. The salary range for this position is $ 39,500-$42,500 and includes medical, dental, vision, vacation and sick pay benefits.
