Description

The Efficiency and Renewables Division, California Energy Commission, lets all Californians know that wise energy use is a great investment both for the economy and the environment. The division makes the state's businesses, homes and appliances more energy efficient by developing and implementing the nation's most stringent building and appliance standards.

The division helps streamline energy use in farms, factories, water systems and processing plants. This division supports the expansion of utility scale power generated by renewable resources, and designed and oversees an aggressive program to make new homes both energy efficient and powered by solar PV.

Responsibilities::

The Mechanical Engineer works in the Appliance and Process Energy Office of the Efficiency and Renewable Energy Division. The incumbent independently performs engineering reviews of proposed efficiency projects in public agencies, provides engineering support for industrial training activities such as end use related workshops, performs energy assessments on large industrial customers (>500,000kwh/yr) under a DOE grant, and assists engineering staff in industries in developing projects to improve process energy efficiency.

The work involves highly technical, sensitive and responsible analyses and interacts with industrial plant owners, management and engineering teams and Commission staff.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant should have:

  • knowledge of the energy efficiency in the industrial sector;
  • knowledge of engineering specifications for energy efficiency measures;
  • demonstrated ability to act as a team leader;
  • ability to communicate ideas effectively; and
  • strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation: (salary will be adjusted accordingly to comply with furlough program)

  • Range A: $4,608 - $5,334
  • Range B: $5,276 - $6,409
  • Range C: $6,103 - $7,413
  • Range D: $6,897 - $8,379

Tenure: Limited Term (12 Months), (May become permanent at a later date), Full time.
