Description

Southwall Technologies, a 30 year old Palo Alto, CA company, is a global pioneer, manufacturer and marketer of thin film coatings that selectively absorb, reflect or transmit certain types of electromagnetic radiation. Our proprietary manufacturing processes create IR reflective films for a wide range of commercial applications -- from transparent window insulation to anti-reflective filters. Southwall has developed a variety of products that reflect solar IR radiation for architectural and automotive glass applications.

Due to recently enacted California CO2 emission regulations, the market for IR Reflective automotive glass is anticipated to grow significantly. This market will incrementally grow to 100% adoption for foreign and domestic light and medium duty vehicles in California by MY 2014. Southwall films enable Automotive Glass Manufacturers and OEMs to meet these new regulations.

We are committed to expanding our notable presence of this growing market by providing excellent local technical support to global Glass Manufacturers located in North America, and have an exceptional opportunity available in the position of Automotive Application Engineer.

Position Overview:

The Automotive Application Engineer, North America will be responsible for ensuring that Automotive Glass Manufacturers are fully capable of using Southwall products. You will have regular technical interactions with the NA Automotive Market, and work closely with the Manager of Automotive Sales- NA to ensure that customer technical requirements are understood and communicated back to the company. You will build a partnership by establishing a technical relationship with the NA Auto OEMs, and ensure they understand the key features and benefits of the automotive XIR products and their application.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Regular interaction with automotive glass companies on technical subjects involving Southwall's automotive film, focusing on helping glass companies employ the features and benefits of Southwall's automotive products to the greatest extent possible.
  • Interaction with glass companies and auto OEM glass specialists to understand new features they require that Southwall could provide either through existing products or product development.
  • Communication of glass companies' and OEMs' needs back to Southwall.
  • Initial troubleshooting of issues that arise in finished glass. This involves working closely with the glass companies and internal Southwall resources to ensure that Southwall products deliver world class capabilities for our customers.
  • Provide field application support for Southwall's automotive products in North America. This involves growing knowledge of XIR film and also applying automotive glazing and manufacturing techniques such as lamination and encapsulation used to fabricate Southwall's products into finished parts.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A minimum BS in Engineering or related science degree, or equivalent experience
  • Several years direct experience producing automotive laminated glass.
  • Knowledge of Automotive glass validation and Product Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Ability to work from a home office
  • Ability to travel dependent upon customer and training requirements

The ideal candidate will be located within 100 miles of Detroit, MI. Southwall will provide training for proper application of XIR
