Our Mission is to protect and restore the Black Warrior River and its tributaries. We are a citizen based non-profit organization dedicated to patrolling the watershed in search of major pollution problems, educating the public, and holding polluters accountable. Position Overview:

The Staff Attorney's job will include communicating with polluters and their attorneys to advocate for environmental compliance and pollution prevention upgrades, representing Riverkeeper in citizen enforcement lawsuits and other environmental litigation before federal and state courts and agencies, partnering with outside attorneys, legal research, managing file reviews and document procurement, and managing legal volunteers and interns.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a J.D. degree, excellent writing, legal research, and communications skills, and at least 2 to 3 years experience with litigation. Working knowledge of the Clean Water Act and other environmental laws is desired. Admission to the Alabama bar is preferred.

Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to manage resources, supervise volunteers, and work cooperatively and productively on a variety of diverse projects in a dynamic non-profit environment. The ideal candidate will be personable, creative, energetic, independent, well-organized, hard-working, dedicated, reliable, environmentally conscious, and passionate about our unique advocacy-oriented Waterkeeper model. We place an emphasis on teamwork.

Compensation: Based on non-profit scale; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Hours: Full time (minimum 40 hours/week). Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule to work longer hours when needed.
