The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 17,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a knowledgeable and energetic professional to serve on the LEED team.

Position Overview:

The Manager of LEED serves as the principal program lead and comprehensive management for a LEED market sector for purposes of LEED technical development or implementation (as part of a new rating system or balloted credit change roll-out); is the project lead for a large, long term LEED technical project or program; or is primarily responsible for QA/QC of two or more market sector based rating systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Management
    • Support development and implementation of annual program budget and business plan in collaboration with Director and LEED department staff.
    • Handle administrative and customer service tasks as needed.
    • Prepare program and financial progress reports as needed.
    • Assist in general program areas such as defining technology infrastructure needs, and various other needs.
    • Select, manage and monitor contractors
  • Outreach  
    • Initiate and develop collaborative relationships with related non-profits, associations, USGBC committees, and contractors needed for technical services.
    • Attend and represent USGBC on external technical committees, e.g., ANSI, ASHRAE, ISO
    • Attend and present at relevant conferences, representing USGBC and LEED
    • Respond to media inquiries, and prepare for publicity opportunities with USGBC Communications team.
  • Implementation
    • As part of a new rating system or balloted credit change roll-out, coordinate with USGBC Marketing, Market Development, GBCI, Communications and Education, including Greenbuild, staff in the development of targeted materials, information, workshops and trainings, publications, certification and accreditation adjustments, and volume program impacts.
    • Coordinate development of LEED rating system submittals for one or more LEED market sectors
  • Technical Development
    • Coordinate development of LEED rating system credits for one or more LEED market sectors
    • Serve as a liaison to the LEED Market Development team and GBCI staff to provide information and assist with resolving technical issues related to LEED market sectors
  • Large, Long Term LEED Technical Projects or Programs
    • Coordinate development of a technical project or program
    • Develop goals, objectives, metrics, project plans and then monitor project status, provide course correction as necessary
    • Responsible for implementation, training if appropriate, and project close out
    • Coordinate with appropriate staff, e.g., IT if an LO project.
  • QA/QC for LEED Certification
    • Coordinate the LEED certification review process
    • Identify issues, inconsistencies, potential credit changes and issues
    • Issue certification review summary reports
    • Provide oversight of Appeal and CIR processes
    • Coordinate response to high level, project specific technical questions
    • Coordinate with LEED Technical Development, Market Development, and Education staff.
    • Provide oversight and updates on high-profile projects and issues

Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:

  • Encourage and accelerate global adoption of green building and operations practices through LEED standards, tools and performance criteria.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive set of program offerings including technical tools and services supporting LEED products to meet the diverse needs of the building industry.
  • Deliver customer service that is professional, timely and targeted to the customer's needs.
  • Ensure effective and professional staff support for LEED committees.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience relevant experience
  • Bachelors and masters degree in a related building industry, policy or environmental discipline
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills
  • Commitment to USGBC Mission
