The U.S. Green Building Council, New York Chapter (USGBC New York), a non-profit organization working to advance sustainable building practices in the urban environment, currently has an excellent opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who are interested in being part of the growing green building movement and gaining hands-on experience in the non-profit sector.
Position Overview:
Catherine Shawn interns will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of the organization, including educational programming, membership and development, as well as other special projects that are geared towards Chapter growth. Interns will also provide administrative support to USGBC New York staff, including assistance with calls and email traffic and other general administrative tasks.
USGBC New York’s internships honor the life and accomplishments of Catherine Shawn. The founder of the High Performance Buildings Salon, and an inspiration to New York’s green building movement, Ms. Shawn was passionate about environmental issues. The Salon quickly became the New York-based green building professional’s leading forum for staying current, sharing ideas, and networking. As the Salon’s custodian, USGBC New York also celebrates this legacy by making Catherine Shawn Interns integral members of our office.
Responsibilities:
Specific Responsibilities May Include:
• Membership and fundraising support
• Website content maintenance support
• Weekly e-newsletter support
• Logistical support with monthly educational programs and special events
• General administrative tasks and special projects as needed
Qualifications:
Individuals with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
• Bachelor’s degree required; recent graduate in environmental studies, engineering, design, or another related field preferred
• Understanding of or strong interest in green building and environmental issues
• Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
• Mac literacy, proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Photoshop
• Knowledge of html and CMS
• Excellent writing and research skills
• Ability to communicate and work well with others
• Good humor and flexibility
• Strong organizational skills
Candidates should be flexible and have the ability to work well in teams as well as independently.
Compensation: This is full-time, unpaid summer position.
