The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 18,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a seasoned professional lead a team that provides the tools and resources to assist Government agencies with the implementation of green building technologies and practices.
Position Overview:
The Director of Government Sector Programs serves as the principal in-house program lead for the state, local, and federal buildings sector outreach program. This staff person will provide comprehensive direction and management in promotion and implementation of LEED for government buildings and portfolios.
This position will require comprehensive coordination of USGBC activities in this market sector, including recruitment and support of government agencies' use of LEED as a platform to green both their new construction and ongoing operations of existing buildings.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the effort to engage Federal, State and Local Government participants in rapidly deploying technologies and practices to green their existing portfolios as well as their new construction projects
- Initiate and develop strategic and tactical relationships with federal government community including collaborative relationships with related non-profits and associations
- Provide strategic direction to the Government sector team in devising program tools and resources as well as communications and education strategies that result in rapid uptake of green building activities within government building portfolios
- Lead development and implementation of annual program budgets and business plans in the sector
- Prepare program and financial progress reports as needed
- Assist in general program areas such as defining technology infrastructure needs, planning events for customers and various other needs
- Collaborate with USGBC Advocacy staff in advancing research and policy as pertains to government buildings and budgets
- Attend and present at relevant conferences, representing USGBC and LEED
- Respond to media inquiries and prepare for publicity opportunities with Communications staff
- Coordinate development and delivery of resources, events, services and training to support LEED implementation in the government buildings market sector
- Serve as a liaison to the LEED technical development team to provide information and assist with resolving technical issues related to the government sector
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years experience related to design, construction, operations or upgrades of buildings in the public and institutional market, or related experience including green building/energy efficiency management and program implementation
- Bachelors degree required, masters preferred, in a related building industry or environmental discipline
- Demonstrated track record in successful management and proven ability to motivate people
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to anticipate issues and develop solutions for complex issues
- Strong abilities in strategy formulation and execution
- Strong public speaking and outreach skills and experience
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
- Strong computer skills, including competency in MS Office suite
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Commitment to the USGBC mission
