Description

Tools to Make a Difference!

Position Overview:

The MCC is hiring Youth Crew Leaders who are ready to gain new skills while mobilizing adolescents to make a positive impact in their communities.

Responsibilities:

The first 3 months of the Youth Crew Leader term of service is spent organizing and implementing community-wide service and conservation projects, promoting active citizenship among the youth of Montana, and developing the skills and abilities to lead summer youth conservation crews.  Youth Crew Leaders will conduct outreach and education with local schools and youth organizations while actively recruiting and hiring for summer youth crew members.

Trainings include: youth supervision and management, technical project and outdoor skills, wilderness first aid, conservation education, and leadership and communication skills.

Once June arrives leaders meet their first of 2 summer youth conservation crews.  Crews will delve into the meaning of service while helping solve critical wildlife habitat challenges; get their hands dirty creating safe trails and maintaining access to remote wilderness areas, national parks, grasslands and forests; and support community non-profit organizations through volunteer service projects.

Crew life and active citizenship are an integral part of the MCC experience.  The challenge of living and working with a diverse crew of individuals provides members and leaders alike the skills and knowledge to create the change they wish to see in the world!  Youth Crew Leaders will work side-by-side with a co-leader, forming a leadership team to share responsibility in the successful functioning of the crew including supervision of project work, teaching daily educational activities, overseeing camp-life, and mentoring youth.

Qualifications:

Joining MCC is not a job - it is a serious commitment to national service and to participating as an active learner in a crew setting. We look for applicants ready to put other's interests before their own, learn and support their peer's learning, complete the entire term of service, participate as a positive member, work hard while serving long hours and living outdoors in all weather, respect MCC as a drug and alcohol free work place and lead by example.
