Leonardo Academy is a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1997 that is dedicated to improving the environment, advancing sustainability and putting the competitive market to work on improving the environment. We are a Think and Do Tank that develops new methods, metrics and standards for environmental improvement and also helps businesses, organizations, families and individuals implement sustainability measures and document their achievements. By working on both the thinking and the doing sides of addressing environmental issues, we are able to make implementing sustainability very practical.

Position Overview:

Leonardo Academy is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented individual to support its work in developing sustainability standards. Leonardo Academy is an American National Standard Institute (ANSI) accredited standard developer and is actively engaged in the development of voluntary consensus standards.

This position is primarily focused on developing sustainability achievement standards, an essential tool for communicating sustainability objectives and to document the sustainability profile of green products and services. In this way sustainability standards empower the marketplace to drive green achievements.

Leonardo Academy is currently developing sustainability standards for: Sustainable Agriculture; Life-Cycle Impact Profile Declarations; Emissions Inventories, Reductions, Credits and Offsets; Sustainable Vehicles; and Sustainable Organizations.

Leonardo Academy promotes staff cross-training. While the work for this position will be focused on standard development projects, the successful applicant may also participate in other sustainability projects such as LEEDR assessment, implementation and certification projects and emissions footprinting, reduction and offset projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Primary Responsibilities: Participate in Leonardo Academy sustainability standards development projects that address sustainability subjects including: Sustainable Agriculture; Life-Cycle Declarations; Emissions Inventories, Reductions, Credits and Offsets; Sustainable Vehicles and Sustainable Organizations.
  2. Secondary Responsibilities:
    1. Assist with LEED-EB assessment, implementation and certification projects
    2. Participate in emissions footprinting, reductions and offset projects
    3. Support other internal and external sustainability projects

Qualifications:

Leonardo Academy is looking for a very organized, proactive, detail-oriented and analytically-minded person. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communications skills and a strong interest in environmental issues to support the development of sustainability standards. A wide range of academic degrees will support work on sustainability standards. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field (biological science, environmental science, business, urban planning, etc.) and have 3 years of work experience in their field(s) of training, or an equivalent mix of education and work experience. Specific training or experience in standards development is not required.

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Comfort with basic math and science
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Valued but not Required Skills:

  • Previous work on sustainability issues
  • Expertise in subject areas of any the sustainability standards being developed: Agriculture, Life-Cycle Assessment, Emissions Inventories Reductions Credits and Offsets, Sustainable Vehicles and Sustainable Organizations

Compensation: Salary will be based on individual's education, experience and their fit within Leonardo Academy's organization structure.
