Description
The Harvard Green Campus Initiative is a university-wide collaborative effort between faculty, administrators, staff and students with the goals of reducing the environmental impacts of campus operations and promoting environmental sustainability.
Position Overview:
The Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI) is seeking a full time (40 hour per week), term position Special Projects Assistant.
Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Director of the Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI)
- Provides ongoing support to the HGCI management team, including preparation of presentation materials, report writing, research and others types of assistance as requested
- Acts as a HGCI liaison to select internal stakeholders and external organizations/networks such as the Allston Development Group, the City of Cambridge, the Northeast Campus Sustainability Consortium etc
- Provides support for various activities relating to Harvard's Greenhouse Gas Inventory and assists with other campus environmental indicator and benchmarking projects as needed including the Harvard University fact book and possibly AASHE's Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System
- Coordinates HGCI-related events and training programs such as an annual green campus awards program
- Assists with general fundraising efforts by researching targeted funding sources and generating grant proposals.
- Assists in the development and/or collation of best practice case studies documenting green campus projects across Harvard University and externally.
- Contributes to writing, editing and posting content for selected HGCI Website areas. Assists with other writing and editing tasks as requested.
- Provides back-up for the Coordinator of Business Organization and Communications during vacations and other absences
- Provides assistance, as requested by the Director, to various HGCI programs and services, particularly as they launch new efforts
- Supports efforts to develop organizational systems for better streamlining team-wide activities and fostering coordination e.g. improving knowledge of and access to key documents and resources
- Assists with other special projects as they arise (such projects may include film projects, development of environmental procurement guidelines etc).
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Proven organizational, administrative, report writing and research skills.
- Must be a fast learner and very comfortable with taking on new projects at short notice.
- Must be comfortable playing a supporting role to the Director and HGCI Management Team
- Strong skills in time management, multi-tasking and information management.
- Ability to work with shifting priorities and schedules and to generally adapt to changing project requirements.
- Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills required.
- Comfort working with graphics and design a plus.
- Must be creative and enthusiastic with a high level of energy and initiative.
- Ability to work as a team player and independently.
- Would ideally have a strong and proven interest in environmental sustainability.
Technology Skills Required:
- Proficiency in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to learn software such as , Photoshop, Illustrator as needed.
