Position Overview:

An excellent position for a senior professional with expertise in renewable energy, climate change and/or energy efficiency policy and markets who will serve in a leadership role for a highly regarded non-profit organization based in San Francisco's beautiful Presidio.

The Center for Resource Solutions seeks a Policy Director with eight years or more professional experience in policy and program implementation and management in at least two of the following areas:

o Climate change policy and markets, including cap and trade design/implementation and carbon reduction certification and markets
o Renewable Energy
o Energy Efficiency

Working in a small, fast-paced organization, this position provides exposure to a wide range of governmental agencies, foundations, non-profit organizations, businesses, news media and other diverse stakeholders active in climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency in North America and internationally.

The Policy Director will provide vision and overall management of CRS' policy engagements, including staff management, representing CRS in public forums and meetings. This position works closely with the entire CRS staff to create and communicate policy positions and deliverables, budget planning, development support, and overall policy program management. This position is full-time, reporting to the Executive Director and working in close coordination with the Deputy Director and other senior management.

Responsibilities:

The CRS Policy Director is a senior manager responsible for developing programs and projects in their particular area of expertise, developing proposals for new projects, as well as overseeing and participating in the successful completion of the work. The Director should expect to do substantive work (i.e. planning and completing deliverables) as well as provide vision, direction and management support for all of CRS' policy work.

In addition to the substantive work the Director will be performing, the Director should be willing and able to perform the following tasks:

• Developing goals for CRS policy work, identifying new projects/programs you would like to develop, managing existing programs and projects, and coordinating with the Director of Development to ensure adequate funding and staffing for programs. This entails providing content for project proposals that are within your unit, developing realistic budgets, and conducting long-term planning for programs and projects.

• Managing projects for which you are the senior staff member. This entails providing substantive input and ensure quality products, ensuring sufficient staff to meet goals, ensuring that project meets timelines, and stays within budget, and conducting regular coordination meetings

• Supervising, mentoring, and evaluating junior staff that work on projects in your unit

• Executing performance reviews for key staff whose primary assignment is with your business unit.

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills, as demonstrated in previous work
  • Advanced degree in relevant field or the equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex collaborative processes
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs or projects under specific resource, time and budget commitments
  • Superior ability to demonstrate judgment, creativity and innovation in an independent manner
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a small, fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of renewable energy markets, policies, trends and standards and electric utility regulatory policies and practices
  • Flexibility to perform a variety of operational tasks as needed to support growing new programs
  • Successful proposal writing and fund-raising experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing new projects/programs, including concept development, acquiring funding (either clients or other funding sources), and producing and managing project deliverables to completion.
  • A commitment to renewable energy development and climate change abatement
  • Willing to travel for meetings, conferences and site visits
  • Sense of humor
