Position Overview:
The University of Virginia is pleased to invite candidates for the position of Sustainability Programs Manager. This position will support the Energy & Utilities Department's organizational objective to provide sustainable, economic and reliable energy, utilities and recycling services to all University facilities. The individual will be responsible for leading the recycling, energy management, and sustainability outreach teams. Additionally, he or she must also insure that all new, renovated and existing facilities are well designed, commissioned and operated in accordance with the University sustainability goals as resolved by its Board of Visitors.
The successful candidate will have superior leadership and communication skills with experience providing administrative and technical direction in the areas of recycling, energy systems and sustainability programs. A proven ability to effectively lead teams and manage programs is expected.
Qualifications:
- Degree from an accredited College or University in engineering or architecture. Licensure as a professional engineer or Engineer-In-Training, or Registered Architect is preferred.
- Extensive engineering/technical experience. Significant experience in energy systems preferred.
- Knowledge of energy systems, renewable energy, and/or recycling and waste management programs.
- Ability to evaluate architectural/engineering designs and systems for buildings, prepare energy use forecasts, and accomplish life cycle cost analyses to determine payback period.
- Experience in educational, research, and/or health care facilities, infrastructure, or systems preferred.
- Certification in Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is preferred.
