BrightFarm Systems provides technical services in support of rooftop greenhouses and building-integrated agriculture (BIA) in both educational and commercial settings worldwide. Our core value is ecological sustainability. The company's team presents a unique expertise in ecological engineering focused exclusively on the application of controlled environment agriculture to the urban domain. BrightFarm Systems is a subsidiary of New York Sun Works, designers and operators of the Science Barge: a prototype sustainable urban farm and research center.
Position Overview:
This exciting new role will provide a wide spectrum of engineering support to the company. In particular, the role will involve:
- providing engineering services including drafting, calculating and equipment specification related to the development of new, innovative designs for urban, rooftop greenhouses
- liaising with external vendors, such as greenhouse manufacturers, component suppliers, engineering firms and architects to ensure custom designs are well engineered and to code
- provide day to day project management on design projects
- supporting the Managing Director on proposal development, and budget management for construction projects
- applying innovative and creative contribution to the design process
- employ good engineering judgment and always provide ethical engineering practice
Qualifications:
B.S. in engineering (civil, structural, environmental, mechanical or related field + 2 years work OR
Masters degree in engineering
The successful candidate will need to be an Engineer with a minimum of 2 years work experience or a relevant postgraduate qualification. Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training accreditation is a plus.
Additional requirements include:
- design experience with steel - experience of truss design a plus
- ability to work in AutoCad, Excel, Adobe, Word - experience with FEA software a plus.
- indepth structural engineering knowledge and experience with building code interpretation - experience with greenhouse construction and / or thermal dynamic characteristics of buildings a plus
- must have the ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
- the ability to think ahead, plan and prioritize workload.
- must have the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- must have excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to problem solving.
Compensation: Salary range $45-$55K dependent on experience + employee profit sharing plan.
