The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit international environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.2 million members and online activists. We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Beijing, China. Our staff of over 350 includes attorneys, scientists, policy analysts and educators working to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.
Position Overview:
NRDC seeks a full-time Receptionist to work in its Los Angeles office. The Receptionist will handle the front desk and provide clerical and administrative support for our office. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who will share with us the excitement of our efforts in preserving the environment.
Responsibilities:
- Handle busy, multi-line phone system for 30 + office
- Hours 9:30AM - 5:45PM
- Maintain and update daily sign in/out sheets
- Greet visitors courteously and contact appropriate staff member
- Maintain the reception areas in an orderly and presentable manner
- Assist with preparing mailings and informational packages
- Deliver daily outgoing mail to U.S. Postal Service mailbox and FedEx at the end of the day
- Train administrative support staff to use reception telephone system
- Prepare, type, format, and proofread correspondence, memos, spreadsheets, reports, presentations, etc
- Make occasional travel arrangements, including transportation, hotel accommodations, vehicle rental and conference registrations
- Perform additional clerical and administrative duties for office staff as assigned
Qualifications:
- 1 year of receptionist experience in an office environment required
- 2 years experience in secretarial/administrative duties desired
- Ability to operate a switchboard
- Friendly, patient phone manner
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must be courteous, professional, punctual and detail-oriented
- Ability to multi-task and work independently
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet
- Interest in environmental and social issues
