Description

The Center for Sustainable Energy located at The City University of New York's Bronx Community College is seeking a Solar Coordinator to implement New York City 's new Solar City Partnership.

Position Overview:

This two year position would include efforts to rapidly build New York City 's solar market, develop and implement strategies to address solar energy market risks, and integrate solar energy into the City 's long-term planning. The Coordinator would be a key member of a network of staff from New York City agencies, the US Department of Energy, and twelve other Solar Cities from around the country working on the Solar America Initiative Solar City Partnership.

The Solar City Partnership is the solar component of New York City's long-term sustainability plan, PlaNYC 2030. PlaNYC 2030 sets a target of 600 megawatts of clean distributed generation, and acknowledges that solar "has the greatest potential to generate electricity within the five boroughs."

To develop its solar roadmap, the City successfully applied to become a Solar City Partner under the US Department of Energy 's Solar America Initiative. With a population 8 million people, an economy larger than all but 17 countries, and a potential solar resource of 8,000 MW, the emergence of New York City as a solar energy market could have national implications.

  • Work with existing efforts within higher education institutions to develop and expand offerings in the areas of policy and planning, technology and research, and technician and installer preparation that will further the potential for growth of solar technology implementation in the New York region.
