New Mexico Community Capital (NMCC) is a community development investment organization in its fourth year of operations. NMCC operates as a non-profit organization with a for-profit investment subsidiary that, in turn, manages NMCC Fund I, LP, NMCC's first investment fund. NMCC LLC I has attracted committed capital of $ 14.65 million from a diverse and impressive array of investors. The fund has made investments in 6 portfolio companies and expects to deploy capital in an additional one to three companies during the next 6 months. At the end of 2007, NMCC Fund 1 is had invested and reserved approximately 70% of its investable capital. Fundraising for NMCC Fund 2 will commence in 2008.

NMCC's purpose is to provide equity capital and business services to companies in underserved, economically disadvantaged and rural areas of the entire state of New Mexico with the goal of creating jobs, wealth and entrepreneurial capacity that advance the livelihoods of the people of New Mexico. The fund seeks double bottom line returns: market-based financial return on investment and a strong social return.

NMCC is seeking a highly motivated individual with significant venture capital or private equity investment experience, and a passion for social change to manage NMCC's investment activities.

Fund Manager's Role

  • To realize NMCC's investment objectives.
  • To manage relations with the Investment Committee, the LP Advisory Committee and with all fund investors.
  • To lead fund-raising efforts for NMCC Fund 2 as well as future funds.

Main Areas of Responsibility:

Manage NMCC's Investment Activities

  • Articulate the investment criteria approved by the Board to all relevant constituencies; play a key role in the evolution of those criteria
  • Initiate, manage and expand deal flow
  • Install investee application, screening and logging procedures
  • Manage deal evaluation & due diligence
  • Negotiate and close investments
  • Provide oversight and management assistance to portfolio companies as a board member or board observer
  • Structure and implement investment exits

Investment Committee

  • Work with the Investment Committee to gain maximum value from this resource
  • Serve as a member of the Investment Committee

Investor Relations

  • Build and expand strong relationships with existing and potential NMCC investors.
  • Fulfill regular and special reporting requirements to all investors
  • Manage LP Advisory Committee

Reporting relationships:

The Fund Manager reports to the CEO of NMCC. In addition, the Fund Manager serves as a member of the organization's Investment Committee.

Competencies, qualifications and experience:

NMCC's Fund Manager will have:

  • A track record of producing superior financial returns from investments. Fund management experience in the equity investment/venture capital industry is highly desirable.
  • Credibility with the New Mexican business community and comfort operating in the New Mexican political, cultural, and business environment.
  • An intimate knowledge of the mechanisms, deal terms and nomenclature in the private equity industry.
  • Substantial experience working with legal and accounting professionals.
  • Proven ability as a successful negotiator who has developed collaborative relationships with other investment professionals, boards of directors and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated financial management, analysis and evaluative abilities.
  • The ability to perform and flourish in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a committed and close-knit team.
  • Proven and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High integrity and a great attitude

In addition

  • The ideal candidate will have a track record of community involvement. (Experience in community development activities is a plus.)
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of community development investment and related policy issues

Salary Range/Compensation:

$100,000-$125,000 + benefits + very significant carried interest in Fund I and in Fund II.
