Description

E+Co, a 14-year old not-for-profit investment company, empowers local energy enterprises in developing countries through business development services and investment capital.  These enterprises supply modern energy to households, businesses and communities, producing measurable social, environmental and financial results.

With nine offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, E+Co has pioneered and is the leading practitioner of the enterprise-centered model of energy investing.  E+Co aspires to be the market leader in energy enterprise development - connecting organizations, programs, and human and financial resources worldwide to the thousands of small enterprises required for a sustainable energy future in developing countries.

As of 31 December 2007, E+Co has an active (i.e., approved and disbursed) portfolio of 114 investments.  In 2007, E+Co - though its Investment Committee, officers and its subsidiary fund management company - approved 57 new investments totaling almost $14 million.  Of these approved investments, 32 have not yet disbursed at 31 December 07. In 2007, E+Co increased by 34% the number of active investments and increased by 127% the dollar amount of active investments.  In 2008, E+Co expects to approve approximately $25 million of new investments.

E+Co's investments in small and medium sized energy enterprises currently provide modern energy to 4 million people and avoid over three million metric tons of greenhouse gases. Between 2008 and 2012, E+Co expects to make between three and four hundred investments bringing modern energy to 17 million people and avoiding 16 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
