Student Outreach Intern (Local Full-Time Internship)
WiserEarth serves the people who are transforming the world. It is an international directory and networking forum that maps, links and empowers the largest and fastest growing movement in the world – the hundreds of thousands of organizations within civil society that address social justice, poverty, and the environment. This directory is organized into over 400 different areas of focus: climate change, poverty, peace, water, hunger, social justice, conservation, human rights, and more. Content is created by people like you from around the world.
Student Outreach Intern
We are seeking an organized, positive, self-motivated person with experience building networks and student partnerships to assist us in spreading the word about WiserEarth. We are attempting to develop a self-sustaining program that engages the student community on WiserEarth. This will be a model that can be replicated across the world. You will co-create this set of initiatives with the Youth/Student Coordinator of the Natural Capital Institute, Kat Mullins.
Initial tasks will include:
-Researching existing environmental & social justice movements on university campuses, and the events associated with them
-Creating a database of key contacts at these schools
-Tracking student use on the WiserEarth site
-Engaging students in WiserEarth groups & discussion forums, and expanding WiserEarth groups on social networking sites
-Undertaking market research to identify successful models of student outreach in the U.S.
-Co-Developing an outreach program with Youth Coordinator
-Creating a pilot project to test the outreach program, with measurable results.
The Student Outreach Intern will also participate in lots of fun, sustainability focused events throughout the West Coast where WiserEarth has a table or is hosting a workshop/presentation.
Skills & Qualities Required:
- Experience conducting grassroots outreach campaigns, especially in a university setting
- Research experience
- Excellent computer skills, proficient using Excel, PowerPoint & database software.
- A keen eye for designing brochures, stickers, and other student resources is a plus!
- Ability to succeed in a team setting
- Flexibility to pick up projects and tasks on an ad-hoc basis
- Passionate about affecting positive change
- Outgoing, energetic, friendly personality
- Experienced & engaged on social networking sites (Facebook etc.)
Hours and Compensation:
Full-time Internship: Three month commitment of 4 days/week, 8:30-5 PST, 30 hours minimum. This position includes a monthly stipend of $500, with travel costs reimbursed.
