The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seeks a Communications Manager for its Americas regional office, based in Seattle. MSC is the world's leading marine eco-labeling and certification program for wild fisheries. The organization aims to reverse the decline in global fish stocks, to deliver quantifiable improvements in marine conservation and help secure the livelihoods of those involved in the global fishing industry.

The Communications Manager - Americas is a new position and its primary focus will be to significantly scale up awareness, support and enthusiasm for the MSC program in the Americas with both existing and new audiences, using traditional and cutting edge approaches.

The Communications Manager will help MSC Americas develop a communications strategy and program that strengthens and expands the awareness, understanding and support for the work of MSC among our varied colleagues, and that firmly establishes the MSC name and brand across the Americas. 

At the outset, the position will focus primarily on the United States market. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to make a significant contribution to sustainable development and the improvement of health of the world's oceans. 

Key duties include: 

  • define and implement MSC's communications strategy in the Americas; 
  • strengthen communications with existing partners, colleagues and networks; 
  • build, manage and/or participate in coalitions of diverse partners; 
  • develop and maintain relationships with all key media; 
  • work with MSC's global communications and marketing team to ensure coordination of messages and events;  
  • manage communications research and reporting.

The ideal candidate will have excellent strategic skills; proven experience in designing communications efforts that reach people and change behavior; excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to build and manage effective partnerships; ability to meet tight deadlines, manage multiple projects and work on own initiative. Sharp computer literacy in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and PhotoShop is extremely important. Knowledge of website management software is also desired.
