Defenders of Wildlife is a national, non-profit membership organization dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities, and we have an immediate paid internship position available with our organization. We seek a talented individual dedicated to the conservation of our nation's wildlife and natural resources to fulfill the role of Green Initiative Research Assistant.

At Defenders of Wildlife, we focus our programs on what scientists consider two of the most serious environmental threats to the planet: the accelerating rate of extinction of species and the associated loss of biological diversity, and habitat alteration and destruction. We work to protect and restore America's native wildlife, safeguard habitat, resolve conflicts, work across international borders and educate and mobilize the public. We stand out in our commitment to saving imperiled wildlife and championing the Endangered Species Act, the landmark law that protects them. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are currently offering research and writing internships for highly qualified individuals with an interest in the creation of environmentally friendly workplace. Interns will use phone interviews and internet research to compile data on state and national programs. Research feasibility and cost of various options for enhancing Defenders of Wildlife's environmental sustainability. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1.) Reducing energy for carbon footprint
2.) Sourcing organic and/or local food
3.) Reducing consumption and waste
4.) Increase recycling
5.) Maximize use of post-consumer recycled products/Environmentally friendly cleaning solvents. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Must be able to aggressively manage several tasks at once, use sound judgment and follow up on prioritized assignments. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

2. Office administrative experience and/or training, familiarity with the workings of a communications office; knowledge of basic programs including Excel, Power Point, and MS Word as well as research skills.
