Description

The Alaska SeaLife Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to marine research, rehabilitation, conservation, and public education.

Position Overview:

The Public Relations Manager is responsible for raising public awareness of the Alaska SeaLife Center among its various target audiences.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Serves as primary contact to answer all media inquiries. Disseminates appropriate information to potential visiting media writers and film crews.
  • Builds relationships with members of the local and national media and maintains media contact database.
  • Writes all press releases and public service announcements.
  • Serves as editor for all public Center publications, including Ocean Chronicles and others as needed; responsibilities include preparing editorial calendar, making writing assignments, writing articles, editing copy, taking photos, following and updating the Center's editorial style guide.
  • Provides content updates for the Center website.
  • Develops and implements internal communication tools, in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Provides guidance and advice on crisis management / PR challenges.
  • Conducts VIP facility tours as needed.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, or related field with three years or more experience in public relations and special events. Travel or tourism experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively and be comfortable meeting new people and interfacing with diverse interests.
  • Ability to work independently and plan and organize tasks.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Access, Photoshop and I View.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds.

This is a regular full-time position. ASLC offers a competitive wage (DOE) and benefits package.
