The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 8,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking an energetic and organized individual with strong "people skills" to work to continuously improve and develop its chapter program while building strong relationships with chapter volunteer and staff leadership. 

Focusing on the ongoing development of the chapters and regional councils, the Chapter Relations Coordinator will also provide outstanding customer service and guidance to the various chapter bodies. This position will work across the organization and with its departments to deliver valuable resources and opportunities to the chapter network with the goal of further increasing the network's capacity to be self-supportive and act as the local USGBC presence. 

Specific Responsibilities Include: 

  • Build and maintain relationships with chapter leaders  
  • Act as the account executive for 2-3 regions and the chapters within the regions  
  • Work with Chapter Executive Directors and Administrators to maximize their effectiveness  
  • Assist with the development of resources for chapter leaders  
  • Identify new opportunities for the chapters to become more supportive, deliver on USGBC's mission, etc.  
  • Act as the liaison between the department and Public Relations and Advocacy to coordinate media and advocacy trainings, Web casts, etc.  
  • Work with Membership to identify and communicate opportunities for chapters to assist with membership recruitment and retention  
  • Actively participate in and contribute to departmental education and communication efforts  
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of chapter events, such as regional meetings and chapter events at Greenbuild
Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:
  • Strengthen USGBC community by increasing the capacity of chapters and building relationships  
  • Identify opportunities to further develop the chapter program through other USGBC programs.  
  • Assist in development of educational and operational resources  
  • Help to implement a model of organizational excellence
Qualifications/Skills:
  • 3+ years of relationship management experience  
  • Experience preferred in:  
    • Event planning 
    • Marketing and/or PR 
    • Non-profit and chapter relations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  
  • General understanding of relational databases. (e.g., Access)  
  • Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills  
  • Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)  
  • Very strong organizational and project management skills  
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve diverse issues  
  • Commitment to USGBC mission
