Here at the New York Power Authority, we're proud to be America's largest state-owned power organization. We provide some of the lowest-cost electricity in New York State, operating 18 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines.
Position Description:
Responsible for the New York Power Authority's (NYPA) Research and Technology Development Program in fulfillment of the corporate mission and business strategy, including developing and implementing new technologies to reduce the cost of the Authority's core business and enhance its competitive position, developing innovative technological solutions for the Authority's customers to enhance their competitiveness and loyalty to NYPA, developing and implementing distributed generation and renewable energy technologies, and developing and implementing advanced power system concepts, power quality, and monitoring and diagnostics technologies.
Responsible for supervising a staff of 12 (Program Manager, Distributed Generation and Energy Utilization, Supervisor, Advanced Power Delivery, Supervisor, Advanced Monitoring and Diagnostics, eight engineers, and one non-technical).
Requirements:
Advanced degree in an Engineering / Applied Science discipline with strong analytical skills and a minimum of 20 years of technical / management experience with an electric utility, research organization, manufacturer, consultant, or energy service company.
Good understanding of the electric utility industry; broad technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines; understanding of NYPA's interaction with outside organizations, including other utilities, research organizations, manufacturers, contractors, regulatory agencies and customers.
Successful candidate must demonstrate the capability to: investigate, analyze and develop solutions to unique and multi-faceted problems and complex issues; handle investigations / projects from start to finish, and work with other groups/departments to implement such solutions.
The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills and a team-oriented approach is required to plan and execute investigations / projects; be able to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team. Excellent interpersonal skills; good written and verbal communication skills; as well as have the ability to effectively present ideas to intended audiences and be able to represent NYPA as a senior technical expert on industry committees and groups, i.e. EPRI.
