The U.S. Green Building Council, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 7,500 corporate and organizational members that is dedicated to promoting environmentally-responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work, is currently seeking an energetic individual with an understanding of information systems and a record of creating effective communication systems to draw value from the organization's assorted information by turning it into knowledge.
The Knowledge Manager will gather and organize information that is spread across the organization and make it readily accessible to internal and external stakeholders.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Develop, implement and achieve a knowledge management plan for the organization
- Develop organizational processes to enable the systematic recording and storage of internally and externally focused information and expertise
- Manage the creation of an intranet to enhance internal communication and access to knowledge
- Review USGBC's websites recommend improvements to improve stakeholder access to information
- Seek opportunities to package organizational expertise, knowledge and learning for use by a variety of clients
- Maximize the usability and usefulness of information for different user groups
- Promote the meaning and purpose of information and knowledge resources/products to clients within and outside of the organization
- Review existing file structure and contents therein, manage redesign and cleanup thereof
- Demonstrate an understanding of knowledge processes such as organizational learning and development
- The role of Knowledge and Information Manager is an integral part of the management team and will contribute significantly to planning, strategy and achievement of operational goals
- In-depth appreciation of the capabilities and limitations of information technology
- Ability to manage knowledge and information via online databases, collaborative technologies and web-based services
- Understanding of the principles of knowledge management as a management technique to enable organizational development in the knowledge economy
- Understanding of and sensitivity to cross-departmental nature of the position, ability to create high-functioning relationships in this context
- Excellent computer skills; experience with database and website management preferred
- Experience in systems development and implementation advantageous
- Leadership and planning skills
- Superior communication skills
- Strong project management skills
- Knowledge Management or related degree highly desirable
