Senior Product Engineer

The Florida Legislature created Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) in 1975 to serve as the focal point for Florida's renewable and alternative energy and energy efficiency research and development efforts.

FSEC is the energy research institute of the State of Florida and is nationally and internationally recognized for comprehensive programs in renewable energy, energy efficiency and hydrogen. FSEC's 140-member staff includes 98 professionals with expertise in engineering, energy research, building science, testing and certification, energy and policy analysis, and education and training.

Job Overview:

The Florida Solar Energy Center is seeking a Senior Product Engineer to be responsible for the development, sales and distribution of FSEC's EnergyGauge building energy analysis software with the overall goal of increasing customer satisfaction and market share of software products. This individual will provide leadership in prioritizing customer needs, determining design requirements, and performing tests to verify products meet specifications. 

The Senior Product Engineer reports directly to the Director of Buildings Research and will supervise a team of software sales and technical support staff and programmers. A team of internal users and scientists and engineers will provide technical expertise. 

Job Requirements: 

• A Bachelors degree in science or engineering is required (Masters degree preferred), preferably in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering or Physics with an emphasis in HVAC and/or heat transfer, and at least 2 years relevant experience. Additional related technical experience is desirable. 
• A Master's degree in a directly related field may substitute for up to two years of the required experience. 
• A solid understanding of building science and energy use in buildings is required. This may be demonstrated by recent successful completion of courses dedicated to this topic or through recent appropriate work experience. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service are required. 
• Good computer skills are required. 
• No software programming is envisioned as part of this position but some experience is preferred. 
• Supervisory, entrepreneurial business or marketing experience is preferred but cannot substitute for the technical background requirements described above.

Salary: 

Starting salary will be commensurate with experience $45,000 - negotiable annually, plus full benefits.
