The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of 6,000 corporate and organizational members that is dedicated to promoting environmentally-responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work, is currently recruiting for an energetic, personable and business-savvy financial analyst to generate business analytics for its various departments. 

The Business Analyst will help USGBC's departments organize and maintain data critical to the management of the specific departments and the organization as a whole. The ideal candidate will have sufficient accounting experience to provide backup support to the Controller on month and year-end closing. 

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with USGBC departments to identify data required for optimal reporting; leveraging SAP database, organize data in a rational, efficient manner to allow easy access, retrieval and analysis thereof 
  • Support departments with budget development and long-range planning 
  • Develop, maintain organizational performance metrics; identify trends, generate projections 
  • Perform market research and analysis, competitive analysis; generate pricing models for new and existing products and services 
  • Analyze costs and revenue to determine profitability and ROI on existing products and services 
  • Perform cost/benefit analysis on options such as outsourcing, licensing and other forms of partnering 
  • Using data from payroll and GL, make recommendations for process improvement, cost reduction and other operational efficiencies; identify areas requiring additional support 
  • Support the Controller with month-end and year-end closing 
  • Other duties as assigned
Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:
  • Undergraduate degree with a major in finance, database management, accounting, mathematics or economics required. MBA or similar graduate degree preferred. 
  • 4+ years of relevant business experience 
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in multiple database programs and Excel; experience with SAP preferred 
  • Strong interest in and aptitude for financial analysis essential. 
  • Experience as either an internal or public accountant preferred 
  • Well organized, detail oriented; ability to handle multiple projects concurrently 
  • Proactive, self-motivated 
  • Customer-service and orientation 
  • Intellectual curiosity; ability to think creatively 
  • Interest in USGBC Mission
