The Solar Electric Power Association, formed in 1992, is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC with a current staff of two (looking to expand to three). SEPA's mission is to facilitate the use and integration of solar electric power by utilities, electric service providers, and their customers. The membership consists of approximately 100 companies, including 50 electric utilities.

To achieve its mission, SEPA strives to meet the following goals:

1. Provide tools to utilities and electric service providers on the use and integration of solar power.
2. Foster business to business networking.
3. Share information on solar electric technologies, applications, and programs.
4. Report on policies, regulations, and legislation.

To help meet these goals, SEPA is seeking to hire a staff member who can fulfill the technical needs of the association's membership.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Technical Services Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing SEPA's technical projects, programs, and services.

Responsibilities include:

Manage technical projects and initiatives including the development of tools, workshops, guidebooks, methodologies, and/or industry standards of value to SEPA members;
Develop and maintain database of technical information relevant for exchange among utility and solar industry members;
Monitor SEPA member interests and needs to identify potential new technical projects/programs for the association, prepare proposals for consideration by the Board of Directors;
Manage the development of the Technology Track for the annual Solar Power Conference;
Represent SEPA at energy conferences and events, deliver presentations about the value of solar to utilities and the value of SEPA membership;
Develop proposals to government agencies and foundations to request funding for technical projects, act as liaison to funding agencies for grants/contracts received;
Take lead responsibility for support of members' technical needs and service requests.

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline plus a Master's degree in Engineering/Finance/Business Administration or 5 plus years of relevant experience. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in the electric utility business, which could include planning, marketing, or customer service; technical marketing/sales; technology commercialization; and/or solar-related manufacturing, integration, technology development, installation, or contracting.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Thorough knowledge of the electric utility industry and deep familiarity with renewable/solar technology status, regulatory frameworks, policy, and market-enabling incentives. Ability to analyze and stay abreast of rapidly changing solar electric technologies, market advances, and developing policy instruments that affect member interests and business decisions. Strong analytical and conceptual skills, including ability to develop original concepts and programmatic frameworks.

Strong member/stakeholder/customer orientation and service ethic. Ability to field member requests for technical information and assistance, and resourcefully find solutions. Ability to operate effectively both independently and within a small team environment. Willingness to travel and conduct effective person-to-person interactions as necessary to complete assignments. Effective written and oral communication skills appropriate for both internal and external stakeholders. Working knowledge of desktop PC applications needed to complete assignments and produce work products.

Salary: $50,000 to $70,000 based on experience
