Gateway, Inc. (NYSE: GTW) has been a technology pioneer, offering award-winning PCs and related products to consumers, businesses, government and educational institutions.
This position will be responsible for developing and managing Gateway's environmental programs. This includes monitoring, interpreting, and developing/ driving compliance programs for existing and emerging global regulations for areas that include: packaging, energy, hazardous materials/substances, recycling and recovery, battery management/disposal, etc. The candidate must be a strong, directive leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to provide strategic guidance to management in setting environmental policy and direction.
Key challenges for this person will be driving the implementation of programs across the organization and developing sources of information necessary to keep fully abreast of the constantly changing regulations for electronic products. This person will also have to move quickly to obtain necessary approvals/certifications to meet Gateway's targeted product launch dates.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Collecting and defining all (global) environmental requirements from customers, agencies and governments for Gateway products.
- Maintaining requirements for restrictions on material content as driven by industry standards, customers and governments and ensuring that Gateway and its vendors comply with these requirements.
- Defining, driving, and establishing cross functional systems and procedures to maintain these requirements in an orderly fashion.
- Ensuring that all environmental certification and environmental requirements are obtained and certification records maintained before releasing any product to ship.
- Communicating the implications of complying with international requirements to all relevant departments and employees.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience;
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing complex technical environmental/regulatory programs;
- Prior experience in the personal computer or related electronics industry is highly desired;
- Program/ Project Management;
- Strong Computer Skills (Microsoft Office Suite) including database management of large volumes of technical data.
This person will be a high-energy person with a high level of integrity. Strong program/ project management skills, communication skills, and the ability to drive cross functional organizations are essential. The ability to handle pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in order to communicate with multiple time zones are also important.
The successful candidate will be a strong leader as well as a team player who will make a strong commitment to the success of the company. The candidate's personal situation must allow moderate domestic and international travel.
Education/Certification:
BA/BS in Business, Engineering, or Sciences; Environment Health & Safety Management or Environmental Studies preferred.
