Job Description:

The Senior Business Information System Consultant develops creative solutions to meet our clients' business information needs. They will lead Information Technology projects within a business Region and provide oversight and career direction for a group of IT consulting staff. They will apply their knowledge of the needs of clients and conduct problem solving with the objective of meeting the business process and information system needs of the client. They must have the ability to manage projects associated with business process analysis, system design, IT planning, information design, system implementation, and work management perspectives. The Senior Business Information System Consultant manages client relationships including both sales and delivery aspects.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and should have 8 to 10 years of experience with a significant fraction of that time in consulting. Experience with municipal water and/or wastewater utilities is important. Familiarity with system development, life cycle methodologies, application development, web development, data warehouse technologies, system architecture, and system design concepts will be key success criteria. All candidates must have excellent written and oral communications skills, strong interpersonal skills in listening, and the ability to work in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops knowledge of the information needs of client business units and pursues the technical skills necessary to support those needs.  
  • Develops functional requirements for technology and business needs.  
  • Facilitates business process workshops.  
  • Completes written specifications to document user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify systems.  
  • Analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to improve existing systems and business processes.  
  • Prepares business case evaluations and cost/benefit analyses of alternative solutions.  
  • Interfaces people and with multiple client departments during the course of an engagement.  
  • Delivers presentations as part of a team at meetings and other functions, as required.  
  • Remains current on technology procedures and practices in the area of specialization.  
  • Ability to travel up to 50%  
  • Ensure that the "right" resources" are engaged in all projects involving significant IT components  
  • Ensure that appropriate QC/QA practices are employed   
  • Deliver some projects as key technical resource and/or PM  
  • Provide technical consulting to support project delivery  
  • Assist in recruiting new employees and development of employees  
  • Prepare an annual business plan for IT services in the Region and assume ownership for successful delivery of the plan  
  • Track ongoing progress toward achieving the plan and make course corrections as necessary  
  • Collaborate with Office Managers so that IT services is accurately reflected in office plans

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in a business, IT, or related field or equivalent relevant experience.  
  • Minimum one year experience as a Junior Business Systems Analyst or equivalent experience.  
  • External consulting skills are desired but not mandatory
