Description

The Northeast Waste Management Officials' Association (NEWMOA) manages a number of projects on pollution prevention, waste site cleanup, hazardous and solid waste management, and toxics in the environment for the state environmental agencies in the Northeast. The Association is seeking a programmer with an environmental background to provide assistance on several of its projects.

The Association strives to maintain a robust website that contains information on the Association's activities and acts as a vehicle for exchanging information among member state programs and with the regulated community and the general public.

NEWMOA is seeking a full time junior programmer to assist the Project Manager in this endeavor. Additionally, the junior programmer would assist with various software development projects. The programmer will work with the Project Manager to design and implement a number of upgrades to various parts of the NEWMOA website, which is a ColdFusion-based site. The website consists of a number of different database-driven applications that need to be developed, managed, and improved upon. The junior programmer would also be responsible for working with the Project Manager to build and improve upon existing MS Access- and Excel-based applications.

In addition to these programming tasks, the junior programmer may be called upon to provide assistance to the NEWMOA's Deputy Director and other Project Managers with organizing face-to-face meetings, conference calls, training workshops, and other events.

Qualifications 

Qualified candidates should possess an undergraduate degree from a recognized school with a major in MIS, IT, or computer science. Equal consideration will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree from a recognized school with a major in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, environmental science or engineering, or environmental policy or planning who also have experience working with ColdFusion, SQL, Visual Basic, HTML MS Access, and MS Excel. Candidates should also have experience in working closely with a wide variety of people and analyzing data.

Strong preference will be given to candidates that have a strong interest in environmental policy, science, or engineering. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with some knowledge of pollution prevention and/or some experience supporting Websites. In addition, candidates should possess good writing and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate should be well organized, dedicated, high energy, and a self-starter. 

Salary range: $35,000 - $38,000 depending on experience and background.
