Bainbridge Graduate Institute is seeking a full-time Director of Marketing and Special Projects who will be responsible for marketing BGI's MBA and Certificate programs, implementing customer retention programs, building strategic partnerships, developing and promoting new proprietary programs designed to generate additional revenue streams, and assuring strong internal communications.
The Director of Marketing will serve on the senior management team and participate in management meetings. BGI, located on Bainbridge Island, Washington, offers a groundbreaking MBA in Sustainable Business that prepares entrepreneurs and managers to build economically successful businesses, initiatives and non-profits that help create healthy communities and safeguard the natural environment.
BGI is growing fast, approaching the third anniversary of its founding, and currently earns about half its revenue from programs and the other half from philanthropic sources. The marketing director will have substantial responsibility in both areas.
This position will be 75% to full time, subject to negotiation during the hiring process. Candidates should be available to start no later than March 1, 2005, and preferably sooner. This position will report to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
* Develop strategic and implement marketing plans
* Develop and manage marketing budget
* Successfully market the MBA and Certificate programs to a diverse student population through direct marketing, events and conferences, word-of-mouth, Internet and advertising.
* Develop targeted marketing programs designed to reach employees of corporations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
* Oversee the development of all recruitment-related collateral materials.
* Manage public website design and content.
* Manage and support public appearances of various BGI spokespeople, including self. Create messaging, presentations and materials, and coach and prepare spokespeople.
* Work with academic program staff to successfully develop and market new revenue-generating programs, including customized training programs and Certificate programs. * Develop strategic partnerships within the sustainable business and nonprofit community.
* Work closely with the Development Director to create BGI's industry-based scholarship programs and other corporate-outreach programs.
* Work closely with the Development Director to create fundraising collateral materials
* Work closely with the Public Affairs Director to successfully weave earned media and other external communications into overall marketing plan and manage organizational image and brand identity.
* Develop and manage effective customer retention programs.
* Assure high-quality internal communications processes and products, especially with Board members and fundraising campaign volunteers
* Recognize the importance of an maintain positive relationships with BGI board members, advisors, fundraising volunteers and other stakeholders.
* Success will require; and coordination of relevant staff, volunteer and board member efforts.
Qualifications:
* A strong interest in and/or experience in sustainable business.
* Advanced degree in marketing, communications or similar degree
* Seven to 10 years experience implementing strategic public relations programs, marketing and communications planning.
* Experience with various communications media, especially paid advertising, promotional materials and Internet
* In-depth knowledge of marketing channels including brand management, promotion, public relations, market research and advertising
* Experience and success in developing revenue-generating programs and strategic partnerships, particularly with corporations
* Demonstrated success in managing a diverse and creative team of in-house and contracted professionals and volunteers
* Ability to develop and manage an operating budget
* Willingness to travel as needed
* Demonstrated success as a hands-on, results-oriented team player with strong project management, organizational and problem-solving skills
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills
The director of Marketing and Special Projects must enjoy working in a fluid, fast-paced environment with frequently shifting priorities and job responsibilities and conditions; and must therefore be a highly effective communicator and team player. In general, BGI seeks self-starters equipped with both strong initiative and excellent judgment, particularly those adept in distinguishing urgency from importance. This position reports to the executive director and works closely with other staff in marketing, communications and admissions, and with board members and founders.
