Description

Provide Exotic (Invasive) Plant Species Management and Control expertise and related support to all aspects of land management program and activities, including, but not be limited to, fire management, vegetation management, erosion control, rare plant management, wetlands related issues, vernal pools and endangered species management.

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct invasive plant control/management and rehabilitation/habitat restoration projects including data collection and analysis, evaluation of eradication success, and identification of opportunities and constraints for training lands and native habitat restoration.
  2. Provide for endangered species management, vegetation management and enhancement, write scopes of work and prepare detailed cost estimates for natural resource projects. Assist in the development of site restoration planning and specifications, as well as perform monitoring of invasive plant removal and habitat restoration projects and coordinating contractor efforts.
  3. Oversee field crews in the implementation of vegetation management and enhancement and other restoration programs and report daily/weekly to the Branch supervisor.
  4. Work effectively and cooperatively with other installation staff and management, and: Assist in the supervision of erosion control projects; Assisting in the oversight of Land Management contracts (including fiscal management; Compiling research Collaboratively develop Scopes of Work; Providing GIS/GPS (nominal) support; Providing document reviews; Conduct field work, as needed Schedule/approve contractors for fieldwork.

Qualifications (minimum requirements)

BA/BS (MS preferred) in botany, biology or closely related discipline, 5+ years professional experience (above/beyond college) in invasive plant species management and control. Demonstrated knowledge of Southern California species and habitats, invasive species management issues and control techniques, federal and state regulations, and agency compliance requirements. Thorough knowledge of exotic/invasive plant species control methods, literature, techniques and protocols.

Demonstrated ability to manage projects and function as a member of a team. Strong writing and organizational skills a must. Excellent observation, analysis, and verbal and written communications skills. Ability to follow directions essential. Ability to read topographical maps and construction plans also essential.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook. Valid California Driver's License, clean driving record, good off-road driving skills. Should be familiar with use of GIS/GPS equipment and software. Preference will be given to those with a Master's degree in an applicable discipline.

Compensation

This is a full-time position, with salary based solely on individual qualifications and experience.
