Description

Accountability:
Reports to the Board of Directors.

RE Sources is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to providing members of the public, businesses, and government with the education, support and services they need to help solve local environmental problems. As part of our mission, RE Sources provides numerous award winning water quality, and waste prevention and recycling educational programs, oversees the North Sound Baykeeper program as part of the national Waterkeeper Alliance, and also operates two retail stores (in Bellingham & Seattle) that collect and sell used building materials, see our website for more information. 

RE Sources currently has 43 employees, and a budget of $1,800,000. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer responsible for personnel and financial management, and program development and implementation.

Qualifications: 

1) Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in environmental science, education, business, or related field.
2) Minimum of four years of high level management and supervisory experience.
3) Minimum four years financial management experience.
4) General knowledge of City, County and State political systems.
5) Specific knowledge of local and state environmental issues, laws, and regulations.
6) Knowledge of educational programs and their promotion and evaluation.
7) Knowledge of marketing and business environment.
8) Good oral and written communication skills, and ability to speak well publicly
9) Experience in fundraising (capital campaigns a plus), writing proposals, contracts and grants.
10) Strong understanding of non-profit operations, and environmental philosophies, policies, and waste prevention.
11) Valid Washington State Drivers License, or ability to get one within 90 days of hire 

Responsibilities:

I. Executive Responsibilities:
a) Provide yearly work plan and monthly updates to the Board
b) Negotiate contracts and grants with funding agencies.
c) Facilitate planning and development of RE Sources programs
d) Oversee the preparation of required status reports for contracting agencies and grant funders.
e) Keep informed of relevant environmental and recycling policies, studies, and initiatives.
f) Monitor effectiveness of programs, and make recommendations to the Board regarding program changes and improvements.
g) Maintain Federal 501(c)3 status. Supervise the filing of necessary city, state and federal reports and tax returns.
h) Develop and pursue new contracts & grants. Work to increase membership numbers and donations.
i) Supervise staff, contractors and interns as necessary.
j) Serve as staff support to the Board, and attend all Board Meetings. 

II. Direct financial affairs of RE Sources as follows:
a) Prepare RE Sources annual budget, and track monthly overall and program performance
b) Prepare monthly/yearly financial statements.
c) Supervise the preparation and maintenance of proper financial records and all tax forms; including Unemployment Compensation, Industrial Insurance, state and city Business and Occupations Tax.
 d) Supervise billing for services, preparation of payroll, and related paperwork.
e) Work closely with The RE Stores' management team to ensure continued store viability 

III. Serve as liaison and represent RE Sources interests as follows: 
a) Monitor relevant City & County advisory committees.
b) Monitor the effectiveness of City, County, and State water quality, recycling, and waste prevention programs, initiatives, agencies, regulations, etc.
c) Develop working relationships with electeds, community leaders, and other non-profits
d) Inform legislators, administrators, council members, and media of RE Sources positions on relevant issues. 

Starting Pay Range: $45,000-$50,000 plus full benefits (health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid vacation, sick leave and holidays)
