Description
The Center for a New American Dream is hiring a Director of Communications and Marketing.
Duties:
The primary responsibility for this senior position is to develop and run a unit in collaboration with the President and Executive Director which advances the Center's mission through strategic message development and creative programs of outreach and marketing.
The Director of Communications and Marketing will be responsible for conveying the Centers unique identity and ensuring a coherent, compelling presentation of the Centers vision, mission, and programs, as reflected in our graphic and written materials. S/he will be responsible for developing innovative media and outreach campaigns, overseeing polling as it relates to these campaigns, and maintaining an excellent network of media contacts.
S/he will oversee, and in some cases directly develop all promotional materials, such as the annual report and informational brochures. The Director will also supervise the editor of the Centers quarterly newsletter and quarterly syndicated column. S/he will provide quality control and design oversight for all program publications produced by the Center. The Center's membership program built largely through online and community-based outreach (no direct mail) will also be under the direction of the Communications and Marketing Director. The Director will manage a small staff and consultants as appropriate. S/he will have the opportunity to hire a marketing associate to join the communications and marketing team.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success with media relations and communications; an established network of media contacts is preferable, but not essential
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with environmental issues; enthusiasm for the Centers mission and objectives
- Minimum five years experience in communications and/or marketing, with preference given to candidates from the non-profit sector
- Ability to think holistically, strategically, and collaboratively
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, sense of humor, humility, and good judgment
- Familiarity with public policy or public education campaigns a plus
- Familiarity with cutting-edge media technologies and the integration of online, satellite, and traditional outreach techniques preferred.
- Creative, highly organized, able to juggle
- Experience with graphic design a plus
- Self-directed and deadline-oriented
- Lover of nature, justice, and children
