Description

One Year Initially, with possibility of renewal.

Canadian Organic Growers is Canada's national information
network for organic farmers, gardeners and consumers. We
have members across Canada, individually and in 13 regional
chapters.

We are looking for a national Executive Director to work
with our effective volunteer structure to develop our
organization to serve the organic sector in Canada, while
enhancing the implementation of COG's Seven Strategic
Initiatives.


Diuties:


The ideal candidate will have:

  • excellent communication, managerial and negotiating skills,
  • superior knowledge of, and a minimum of three years' experience
    in organizational development skills,
  • strong volunteer administration experience, including contract
    coordination and fundraising coordination/proposal writing,
  • knowledge of the organic sector,
  • equivalent experiences demonstrating integrity and dedication,
  • superior knowledge of current national and regional economic,
    social and agricultural issues, gardening, farming, and food
    production/distribution issues, and COG's goals and projects,
  • abilities in organizing, mobilizing, training, coordinating,
    and motivating individuals and groups.
  • significant experience in an equivalent NGO


The COG Executive Director is responsible for:

  1. Implementing policies approved by the Board of Directors.
  2. Effectively coordinating the operations and activities of COG.
  3. Implementing a responsible financial plan; including the
    cost effective operation of COG: minimizing expenses,
    obtaining least cost services from contractors and service suppliers.
  4. Writing/ensuring that others write, and get funded,
    sufficient project proposals to implement COG's Business
    Plan in the 5-year capacity-building period and thereafter.
  5. Communicating information in an effective and timely
    manner from Committee Chairs, the Management Committee
    and the Board of Directors.
  6. Human resource management of COG paid staff/contractors/volunteers.

Terms:


The Executive Director may establish an office in his/her
home community if it serves as a base for establishing and
maintaining rural contacts. Otherwise, a possible move to
Ottawa or New Brunswick may be required.

This is a full-time, one-year term position, with the
possibility of renewal. Remuneration in the range of
$35,000 to $45,000 per annum, depending on ability
and experience.
