Overview:
Earth Day Canada (EDC) is seeking a Researcher to work on two of their programs: EcoKids and EcoAction Teams. EcoKids is Earth Day Canada's environmental education program for youth (primarily for ages 7 - 12) who care about the planet. Since 1994, the EcoKids Program has empowered Canadian youth with environmental knowledge and hands-on activities, and presented this information in fun, exciting ways that increase awareness and encourage active community involvement. EcoAction Teams is designed to help Canadians reduce their impact on the environment by teaching them about basic lifestyle changes needed to create a more sustainable world. The program outlines practical tips and actions in areas such as household energy and water conservation, transportation and waste reduction. Participants work together in community-based teams and are able to track their progress and savings on the EcoAction Teams web site.
Job Description:
The Researcher will provide research on a variety of environmental topics such as wildlife and resource conservation. S/he will collect, synthesize, and write the information in ways that are appropriate to the target audiences of the two programs (i.e. children and adult audiences).
Reports to: EcoKids Program Manager and EcoAction Teams Program Manager
Responsibilities:
- Research environmental topics via several modes of inquiry including reports, library research, web, literature searches, and summarize information appropriately for use by the two programs.
- Assist with the development of program materials using the research collected.
- Liaise with external contacts as required.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in environmental research and creating environmental education materials.
- Strong research skills, especially web-based research.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and data management.
- Undergraduate degree.
Duration: 6 month contract

Salary: Wages commensurate with experience
