Description

Bioneers/Collective Heritage Institute (CHI) seeks an experienced and
innovative leader to serve as Communications Director. This is a senior
position suitable for a seasoned strategist or communications veteran.
The communications director will, working with the executive director and
founder, lead the organization in sharing the vision and values of
Bioneers through integrated and diverse communications vehicles,
including an international radio series, web site, strategic media
outreach, satellite conferences, books, newsletters and collateral
materials.

Bioneers tells the stories of biological pioneers people whove
created effective model solutions and social inventions to address our
most pressing environmental and social challenges to restore the Earth
and her peoples. Intended to inspire and equip people toward greater
engagement in restorative action, these stories demonstrate just how
powerfully one person can and does make a difference in effecting change.

Duties:

  • Develop & implement strategic communications plan, including planning,
    evaluation, improvement and integration of all organizational
    communications vehicles.
  • Manage, coordinate, and cultivate a team of 4 talented communications
    staff people.
  • Supervise the redesign of Bioneers web site, integrating ways to
    optimize visitor engagement and membership participation.
  • Design and help to implement media outreach strategies, generating
    coverage of the extended Bioneers community and their projects.
  • Write draft press releases, op-eds and calendar listings, in
    collaboration with executive director and founder, with capacity to serve
    as a spokesperson.
  • Support the orgs development efforts, especially with foundation grant
    proposals.


Experience:

  • Extensive communications experience in environmental & social change
    work a must. Strong background in communications or media, with at least
    10 years' related experience.
  • Working knowledge of a range of environmental and social issues.
  • Knowledge of new and traditional, local and national media
    (international a plus).
  • Experience in development, organizational development and/or membership
    organizations a plus.
  • Experience with radio distribution and satellite conference production
    a plus.
  • Previous experience managing middle managers and entry level employees
    is vital.


Skills & Qualities:

  • A strategic communicator capable of analyzing opportunities, and aiding
    the leadership of the organization in strategy development and
    communications decisions for Bioneers.
  • A great project manager capable of holding big-picture vision to
    recognize and optimize strategic links and interrelatedness between and
    among project areas.
  • A strong people manager who will supervise a communications team of 4
    people, will be both responsible and responsive to our staff, helping to
    develop their skill sets and cultivate their loyalty.
  • A multi-tasker with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment,
    juggle competing demands and timelines, be a strong team player and
    maintain good working relations with staff and media.
  • Sense of humor, good judgement and patience are sought, in a person who
    enjoys working in a collaborative creative environment.
  • Passionate about the mission and work of Bioneers.
