Description

Background:

The International Relations Coordinator works closely with the Manager,
International Programs to ensure maximum efficiency, rapid response, and
smooth operations of ECP's international programs including but not limited to
rapid inventories (biological and cultural), training efforts, and follow-up work for
conservation action. S/he is responsible for supporting the Manager by:

  1. Sustaining relations with ECP's collaborators internationally, in the U.S.
    and within the Museum;
  2. Assisting in the implementation of alternative economic development
    strategies in program areas with the Manager, international partners, other
    ECP and Center for Cultural Understanding and Change staff; and
  3. Ensuring that international partners receive appropriate training in financial
    management either through direct training, or through consultants, so that
    partners can oversee programs independently.

Overall, s/he works closely with ECP and CCUC staff, and U.S. and
international collaborators to assist in the implementation of ECP's international
efforts and to integrate them, as feasible, with ECP's local programs.

Duties:

  • Sustains key relationships with multiple international collaborators;
    responsible for follow-through and consistency of communications with
    collaborators-in ECP and the Museum, in the U.S., and in country.
  • Coordinates logistics of visits by international and US collaborators;
    coordinates meetings with collaborators in country.
  • Assists international partners, other ECP staff and CCUC staff with the
    implementation of alternative economic development strategies in program
    areas.
  • Assesses collaborator needs for financial management training and secures
    appropriate training through consultants or through direct training, so that
    partners can oversee programs independently.
  • Coordinates legal aspects directly related to international program
    partnerships (permits, contracts, insurance), with the Manager,
    International Programs; Manager, Operations and Administration; General
    Council; and other ECP and Museum staff.
  • Builds and maintains information and contact database for international
    effort.
  • Assists the Manager, International Programs with financial management of
    the international programs.
  • Assists with field logistics (in-country and pre-trip) when necessary.


Qualifications:

  • Degree in biology, or related field, and at least three years of successful
    work experience in conservation or management field.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating multiple complex projects.
    Excellent ability to organize and sustain intricate programs.
  • Fieldwork experience in the tropics desired.
  • Fluency in Spanish required; working proficiency in Portuguese desirable.
  • Superb communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work
    effectively in cross-cultural situations involving colleagues of varied
    economic and professional backgrounds, in both public and private
    sectors.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Strong ability to
    maintain momentum of team efforts and to keep everyone abreast of key
    issues.
  • Comfort working with and responding to rapid change and new
    opportunities.
  • General knowledge and appreciation of the social, economic, and political
    issues facing countries in the tropics.
  • Willingness to travel (25-50% of time).
  • Commitment to mission and values of ECP and The Field Museum.
