Description
Duties:
The Public Affairs Intern will work in the Development and Public Affairs Department of TPLs Mid-Atlantic region, assisting with a variety of public affairs activities ranging from administrative tasks to writing functions.
Responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining and updating the regions media database including contact information and notes on press received using a web-based national media database. Includes creating groups to contact regarding specific projects.
- Receiving, archiving and distributing press clippings, both hard and electronic copies.
- Posting best of press clips to TPL Intranet.
- Distributing press releases and coordinating their posting to the TPL website.
- Representing the work of the Trust for Public Land in the Mid-Atlantic region through written materials, including web page content, fact sheets and press releases. Enhancing the web site and keeping it current as a valuable resource and tool for partners and supporters.
- Assisting with the Mid-Atlantic regions public affairs efforts, both internal and external, as opportunities and needs arise.
Qualifications:
- B.A. preferred; current undergraduate students with relevant experience will be considered.
- Excellent writing, research, organizational and computer skills required. Experience working with Act 2000, Fax Press and Burrelles Info Office a plus, but not required.
- Experience writing for the web and familiarity with environmental issues desirable but not required.
This is a part-time, unpaid internship (approximately 10 to 15 hours per week on a flexible schedule), and a great opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience in public affairs, open space/land conservation, and/or nonprofit operations. Current graduate or undergraduate students seeking a credit-based internship will also be considered.
