Background:
Friends of the Mississippi River is seeking a self-motivated, creative person, who
enjoys teaching and working with people, to fill the position of Watershed
Education Coordinator.
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) is a non-profit citizen organization that
works to protect and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin
Cities area.
Duties:
The Watershed Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating FMR's
storm drain stenciling project and water quality education programs to include:
- recruiting school groups and other volunteers,
- teaching students and community
groups about urban water quality issues, - training and supervising groups to
stencil, - planning and coordinating teacher trainings and community workshops,
- and maintaining equipment, supplies and records of work accomplished.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; experience in program coordination
or management; experience teaching or giving presentations; knowledge of or
training in urban water quality issues; and strong verbal and written and
communication skills. Reliable transportation is required; mileage is reimbursed at
$0.35 per mile.
Compensation:
The salary for this position is $13.00 - $15.00 per hour with an average of 20-30
hours per week. Benefits include paid holidays and sick leave, and a $100
monthly parking allowance.
Work required for some weeks in May could exceed
30 hours. Anticipated starting date is in late January; the position ends in
October.
