Background:
Jumpstart is a national nonprofit organization engaging young people
in service
to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared
to succeed.
Position Overview:
The Senior Deputy Director of Development is responsible for the
management
of all fundraising activities for the Jumpstart national organization. This
includes fundraising activities to raise the national budget ($4.0+
Million),
developing and managing foundation relationships and corporate
partnerships, and providing coordination and technical assistance to regional
development
officers. The position will directly report to the VP Marketing and
Development,
with whom he/she will work closely on all fundraising activities.
The Senior Deputy Director of Development must be capable of building
and maintaining
strong relationships, and be familiar with foundation giving, corporate
philanthropy,
individual donor cultivation, and general relationship management. The
Senior
Deputy Director of Development should have a background/experience
in service
and education ideally and be excited about sharing his/her passion
with children,
college students, and faculty and community partners.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead Organization's fundraising and development work including:
- Key responsibility for delivery of $4.0 million national budget
- Develop new national corporate partners and develop strategies
for promoting
and inspiring all corporate sponsors - Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from individual donors
- Provide technical assistance to regional deputy directors
including research,
cultivation, proposal writing. - Write major, multi-site grant proposals and progress reports
- Lead role in new site development process
- Support national public relations and marketing initiatives
- Annual Fund Campaign
- Jumpstart Trustees Program (Year-Long)
- Keep current donor database system with current donor
information and data - Work to ensure hard-file information (Annual Reports, Guidelines,
etc.)
is up to date - Primary manager of national corporate sponsors (including
American Eagle
Outfitters, Pearson, and Starbucks) and major foundation
partnerships - Engage local corporate partners in work of Jumpstart, through
volunteer
opportunities and special events
Manage key Individual donor efforts, including:
Maintain Information Systems
Coordinate all Corporate Partnerships
Qualifications:
- Candidates must have at least 10 years of directly related experience
in
a senior role. - Candidates must also have proven experience in meeting
similar
annual fundraising goals, full-scale knowledge of fundraising methods,
and the
ability to develop and implement strategic development plans. - A related graduate or advanced degree preferred
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and
management support - Ability to manage projects, partnerships, and professional
relationships - Energetic, enthusiastic, and interested in growing an
entrepreneurial organization - Strong external communications skills
- Highly organized and flexible in a fast-paced, challenging
environment - Experience in grant writing and other development activities
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills and experience
- Experience in a supervisory or management role
- Ability to communicate policy consistently
