Description
Closing Date: When Filled
STARTING DATE: Summer 2002
DESCRIPTION: This three-year project is designed to assess if a recently developed wetland classification and functional assessment protocol, created in Pennsylvania, applies to regions north (NY) and south (VA) within the Appalachian Mountains. We want to determine if similar wetland types occur along a broad latitudinal gradient, and if wetland structure and function are similar. If we are able to show that certain wetland types occur along a broad latitudinal gradient, then aquatic classification efforts will be made easier, and functional assessment of these wetlands will be simplified. This individual will be expected to coordinate research activities across the three states and multiple investigators and graduate students. In addition, this person will be expected to develop his or her own research interests within the framework of the larger study. Considerable travel will be expected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in some aspect related to wetland ecology, with preferred experience in hydrology, hydrologic modeling, or soils ecology. Experience with identification of Appalachian wetland plants and GIS a plus.
STIPEND: $31,092 with full benefits. The position is fully funded for up to 2.5 years, contingent upon performance.
CONTACT: Interested individuals should send (via mail, fax or email) a letter of interest, resume, copy of transcripts, and contact information for three (3) references to:
