About ASTHO:
The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) is the national non-profit organization representing the state and territorial public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia. ASTHO’s members, the chief health officials of these jurisdictions, are dedicated to formulating and influencing sound public health policy, and to assuring excellence in state-based public health practice.

Position Objective:
The Policy Analyst, Environmental Health Policy, assists the Senior Director, Environmental Health Policy, with project deliverables for federally funded environmental health projects. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Completes assigned deliverables under supervision of Senior Director.

2. Represents ASTHO at meetings and conferences as requested.

Provides input into reports and cooperative agreements and conducts research under
the Senior Director’s supervision.

4. Responds to requests for assistance and information from members, affiliates, and national organizations.

5. Drafts and edits newsletter with Senior Director’s guidance and oversees its timely production and distribution, as required.

6. Handles administrative tasks such as meeting planning, setting up conference calls, and committee/workgroup mailings.

7. Assists the Senior Director in tracking and analyzing appropriate state and federal legislation.

8. Collects, analyzes, and disseminates electronic information.

9. Manages assigned deliverables independently.

10. Functions effectively in a team environment.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelors Degree

Experience: State or local public health, environmental health, or association experience desirable, ability to track and analyze appropriate issues and legislation as federal and state levels, and ability to develop and maintain collaborative networks and to represent the Senior Director as meetings and conferences.

Years Experience: 1-2 years prior related experience or related Masters degree.

Skills: Strong written and oral communications skills, ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Knowledge of word processing applications such as MS Word, and other software applications (e.g., spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, etc.)
